War. The word does not always mean armed conflict between nations. War can be conflict within an individual and their emotions. In a romantic relationship, love makes people do or say certain things that simply do not make sense. In any example, war never makes sense in the end; for the ones involved are hurt. In this world there are many examples of how in relationships, things can take a negative turn if not properly taken care of. Taking a look at the two novels The Great Gatsby and the Things They Carried the characters involved develop love interests that create conflict. In a relationship one can become dishonest even if it isn’t in that person's best interest. In the Great Gatsby, Tom admits that he has cheated on Daisy. “and what’s more, I love Daisy too. Once in awhile I go on in a spree and make a fool of myself, but I always come back, and in my heart I love her all the time.” (Fitzgerald 131). Tom openly confesses that he has left Daisy just to fool around. While Tom fools around, he is most likely seeing other women besides Daisy. This proves that Tom has been dishonest with Daisy. Someone being dishonest to their significant other often leads to poor decision making. A prime example of someone being dishonest is when they want to keep something from another person. In the article Lying it gives the true definition of being dishonest. “A lie is any deliberate deviation from the truth; it is a falsehood communicated with the intention to mislead or deceive.” (Krapp). This quote shows that lying is anything but the truth and will end up hurting or fooling the other person. In Tom and Daisy’s relationship, Tom often misleads and deceives Daisy by going on his “sprees”. Because he goes on these sprees he is being dishonest to Daisy which hurts
