Doesn’t it feel good to have Power? For many centuries, power has been used to make decisions, be defined as good in society, and rule things. People over the years have gained power through manipulating other citizens. Authors have explored power in books throughout history. Arthur miller, The Author of The Crucible implies that you can gain a lot of power through manipulation, but if you are black or a servant you can’t gain power. Though some people think that money is the key of getting power, In The Crucible, money matters less than a person’s able to manipulate others. Abigail uses manipulation to trick people into giving her power. Danforth uses manipulation through threatening the people. Tituba, being black, and a servant, has no power.

When John Proctor confessed to lechery, It was Abigail he was committing lechery with. At the end of the story, John Proctor was getting hanged for witchery and being a lechery, Abigail’s manipulation was a helping cause to his death because John proctor was manipulated into getting into an affair for her. When Tituba was refusing to confess to witchery Parris said that “You confess or I will take you out and whip you to your death.” (pg.44) Tituba has no power, and because she is black and servant, she has no other choice but to confess or she will get whipped by Parris. This is when Abigail blames Tituba by saying “She made me do it! She made Betty do it!”(pg.43). It goes to show that anyone can accuse tituba of a crime, and even if she didn’t do it she would have to confess. Tituba could have as much money she could desire, but because of the fact that she is a black servant, She cannot grasp any
