When Jean (Sandra Bullock), a white privileged woman who holds high economic and social class due to her husband being a governor. After having her car stolen at gun point by two black males, Jean begins an argument with her husband. Jean is upset because her fear of black males came in fact true when the carjacking scene happened. Right before having the care stolen Jean and her husband were walking to their car when Jean spotted two black male in a predominantly white area, she instantly gripped her husband’s arm implying her fear of the black male. Due to the carjacking, Jean and her husband immediately got their locks changed by a Hispanic male. Jean continued arguing out of the fear that the Hispanic male will probably go sell their key to one his “gangbanger” friends. Since the Hispanic man changing the locks, had a “shaved head and pants around his ankles”, in Jean’s eyes he was gang related. This scene do depicts racism however reinforcing the idea of “whiteness” and “white privilege”. The concept of “whiteness” is portrayed making the white characters acts of racism towards people of color
