Developmental psychology is the study of development and change across one’s lifespan (children, and adults). The experience I have thus far in developmental psychology ranges from babysitting as a child, volunteering at daycares/children schools, and my job currently working as a Unites States Army Recruiter. As a child to earn money, and because I was volunteered to do so I would babysit my younger cousins while their parents went out or worked. During these events, I had to gain an understanding of babies and younger children to provide adequate care. Also, I was able to watch them develop into the toddler stage to adolescents and even young adults.
Additionally, as a teenager my parents were adamant regarding volunteer work, and being active in our community. Therefore, my parents would have me volunteering at Big Brother Big Sister events, in women shelters, retirement homes, elementary schools, or anything taking place in our community. Having the opportunity to participate in those volunteer activities I came into contact with individuals of all ages from infants to the elderly. Also, due to the fact that I work with teenagers and young adults daily and I am considering working with that age group in my future career. Another stage of development I would like to explore within this course is the developmental changes in the later stage of life (elderly). While I would like to believe and state that I am going to stay young forever I know that is fictional and I curious about what to expect and the changes that happen as one
