Another reason Christians should read the Old Testament is that within the Old Testament are prophecies that tell us major events to come in history. These prophecies help us to connect the two major sections in the Bible, and in addition they help to tell the future of the Earth. Isaiah, for example, prophesied in chapter seven verse fourteen of Jesus’ birth. It tells that He would be born of a virgin, and He will be called Immanuel. We would discover this prophecy to come to pass in the book of Matthew and Luke like Isaiah had said. Besides connecting the Old and New Testament in this way, there are prophecies of things that are to come that have not passed.
