Many people argue whether the drinking age should be eliminated, lowered to 18, remain at 21, or be raised to 25. According to CNN, “On July 17, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, which withheld a percentage of highway funds from any state that didn’t raise the minimum drinking age to 21.” Since that time, many lives have been saved. Being able to buy alcohol is a huge privilege that adults should make, not children. The cerebellum is still developing during adolescence, which is why alcohol might affect coordination differently than in adults, causing dangerous behavior. The drinking age should remain at 21 for multiple reasons. Some people urge the drinking age to be lowered. This is completely outrageous considering all the negative effects alcohol has on teens. Underage drinking is unfortunately very popular in today’s society. Teens are finding ways to consume alcohol at young ages and it is becoming a huge health problem. Underage …show more content…
If the drinking age is lowered, many people will abuse alcohol and it will affect their brain developments. Some argue that the drinking age should be eliminated completely. In a world with no drinking age, there would be chaos. There will be kids getting drunk, intoxicated students at school, and uncoordinated drivers. Uncoordinated drivers may lead to many car accidents, which can result in deaths. The drinking age will remain 21 because there is no reasonable explanations why it should be changed. Drinking underage only causes young alcoholics, aggressive behavior, vandalism, and many negative things. Those who cheat and drink underage will never know the satisfaction of waiting until being 21 to drink an alcoholic beverage legally. Waiting until 21 will make people appreciate alcohol for what it is and not just use it to “get drunk.” The drinking age has been 21 for many decades and will stay 21 for many more
