Exponential growth occurs when a number increases at a constant rate through a certain period of time. Exponential growth and environmental problems correlate through several outlets, one of which is the fact that our world population grows exponentially by the second. Because of this, there is a high demand for more of Earth's resources and with this our resources are becoming scarce because of the rate we use them at. This is a case of tragedy of the commons. Another correlation is that there is an exponential increase in the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities that are a threat to our environment. Because these activities are occurring, biodiversity is decreasing and there is a significant climate change, all in which are created because of our society and in the long run are also a threat to our human population.

2. Natural capital includes all of the natural resources and services earths provides for us that allow us and other species to sustain our lives on Earth, such as water, soil, air, food production and wildlife habitats. Natural capital is ever-changing, just as humans are. As Earth changes through the years due to global warming and other natural and human caused events, natural capital corresponds to the change. For example,

Sustainable yield is the rate that a renewable resource could be used, in which it has enough time to regenerate its supply without reducing. Sustainable yield and environmental degradation relate because environmental degradation occurs when the resource's sustainable yield is surpassed. An example of environmental degradation is the depletion on trees on Easter Island because they were continually cut down for usage, such as, travel and capturing food. Tragedy of the commons is the degradation of unowned renewable resources due to over-usage. Many environmentalist alleviate this type of tragedy by setting up rules and regulations as to how they will share and use their community's common-property
