In one of the most famous books of all time, the Bible, God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” When God said that so long ago, he intended man to rule over every creature humanly and righteously just like he would. He wanted to make sure that all the animals would be taken care of properly and used in the best possible manner. Unfortunately, when you look at modern times, some people take one of God’s greatest blessings and end up hurting everyone; including animals. For example, if you go into a factory farm, you would be quite surprised at how well these animals are treated. They are often kept in crowded, smelly conditions that can affect their health and way of living. One of the ways that factory farms can hurt animals is by giving them too much antibiotics. This type of practice allows animals to gain weight at a much faster rate. Unfortunately, if you give an animal a lot of antibiotics, their immune system will adjust to it and their bodies won’t be prepared for diseases in the future. Factory farms are able to produce a lot of products at a much faster rate while family farms cannot. Since family farms can’t keep up with the world’s growing population, they struggle to compete with their bigger competitors. This allows factory farms to have the upper hand. By closing down the smaller, more local farms, factory farms are able to have more customers and less competition. Unfortunately, by taking control, they put many lives at risk.
