In Fahrenheit 451, Montag breaks the law by owning a collection of books. After being caught, he attempts to break away from the city to be free. Montag’s friend orders Montag to “head for the river if you can, follow along it, and if you can hit the old railroad lines going out into the country, follow them”(132 Bradbury). Likewise, in “The Declaration of Independence”, Jefferson uses powerful language to motivate the reader to break away from Great Britain. He says, “We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America in general congress assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do in the name and by authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare that these united colonies are and of right ought to be free and independent states..”(Brozo 115). Both readings emphasize the goal of
