This quote from Clarisse McClellan is an example that individual self-expression is important. Clarisse is different from all the other kids in school and most of the adults as well, but she doesn’t ever let that bother her. She demonstrates that it’s ok if you’re not like everyone else and it’s good to express yourself in your own unique way. Others say she’s “antisocial” just because she doesn’t act like everyone else, but she shows us that, despite what people say, she is a happy person who is enjoying her life. Beatty, the Captain of the firemen, talks about the Hound, a device to help them burn books, “‘It’s a fine bit of craftmanship, a good rifle that can fetch its own target and guarantees the bull’s-eye every time’” (Bradbury 31). Yes, the Hound may be a great piece of technology if it’s used to do good things. In this case, that is the opposite. Beatty uses this device to destroy things and hurt people. This shows that in the wrong hands, technology can be dangerous. This reminds me of another book, “The Hunger Games” because in that story, the starters of The Hunger Games had access to amazing technology, but they were terrible people. They used technology to make the people fearful and cause them harm. They used what they had to do terrible things, instead of putting the technology to good
