All of us experienced an episode of depression after my mother’s sudden death. However, that situation made us become more involved in our father’s healthcare. After he became ill, we reviewed his health history. A history of depression, high blood pressure, and heart disease were discovered. The fatal car accident opened our eyes to the importance of family history. My siblings and I soon were caregivers to my father. With the knowledge of my maternal family’s side health conditions, made the women more aware of the risks of cancer. Karen and I both visit our family physicians and have undergone mammograms for early detection of breast cancer. I encourage the family to meet monthly to cope effectively with the loss of our parents. Also, we support each other and seek counseling from pastors when necessary. We experienced fear and deficient knowledge prior to my father’s demise. I have instructed my siblings to seek education about disease prevention from their family physicians. In addition, I keep the line of communication open, allowing them to express their feelings and fears (Ackley & Ladwig, 2011). I have given them information on support groups to help contend with their depression and
