They are to report to a new location and are given a date. They will have transportation planned for them. To get the family overseas, there are additional requirements, including medical, dental and behavioral health screenings. The family must schedule for their belongings to be packed twice, pets to receive quarantines, paperwork for all family members and school reports for the children. Often, they may receive word with very little notice. They are asked for their choice of the top five locations, however more times than not are given whatever the monitor selects for them. They arrive eventually on island if all those things are done after a 25-hour plane ride, given a brief rest, then tasked with setting up new residency in a country they have never visited. They must learn to drive on the other side of the road, take a new drivers exam, get additional screenings and check ins done. They will hope for off base housing but most likely will live on base in whatever they are given.
