I did not understand feminism, but the more I read about it the more knowledge and outstanding I gained. “Feminism is dead” (5) was a misconception, this was used to persuade peoples’ mind that both sex are equal because women had gained some privileges. However, women are still being viewed differently in some areas, like education and employment. In many schools some courses are viewed as masculine such as computer science and engineering. Women are still receiving less salaries than men, even if they both have the same job description. “Feminists hate men” was a very popular stereotype used to say that feminist wanted men to be powerless. A more accurate thinking of feminism was for all sex to be equality. Hence, feminists critiqued the patriarchal society (Launius and Hassel, Threshold Concepts, 6). The impression that was given about feminists hating men, leads to the another stereotype, “Only women can be feminists”.
