The political and domestic order of a particular civilization is a direct influence to how successful the civilization will be as a whole. Whether a civilization has political and domestic harmony or discord is a reference to how well the civilization is ran. The moralities of a civilization tend to separate the successful from the unsuccessful. Historically, when kingdoms begin to lack a moral compass, the respective kingdom gradually decays until it eventually self-destructs. Therefore, the political and domestic order of a kingdom is far more significant to the overall success and longevity of a kingdom than any other aspect. Cicero in The Role of the Roman State says, “That man who undertakes responsibility for public office in the state must make it his first priority to see that every person can continue to hold what is his and that no inroads are made into the goods or property of private persons by the state” (Source 7.2). Cicero goes on to write that the politicians must be in politics for the right reason, not just for the popularity. He warns of how serious the repercussions could be for the politicians only looking for fame by stating, “Such men are shaking the very foundations of the state” (7.2). The texts provide an elite male perspective in that the women are basically forced to serve their husbands, and the husbands have the responsibility of controlling their wife. A real relationship cannot be formed from such aggression towards the responsibilities of the women. Likewise, women could be seen as having elitism by being favored in philosophy.
