The “Fetal Abnormality” case study presented the perspective of Jessica, Marco, Maria and Dr. Wilson on the abortion of a fetus. Jessica and Marco is a young married couple that have work hard with to earn enough money that enabled them to move out of their aunt house to their own apartment. Jessica became pregnant, but at four months of the pregnancy, the scan discovered that Jessica’s and Marco’s baby have yet no grew any arms and with a low possibility to developing one, also the baby have 25% chance of having Down syndrome. Dr. Wilson told Jessica about the baby condition and supported for her to abort the fetus. Marco is Jessica’s husband, who loves her and will support any decision Jessica made. In the case study Dr. Wilson explained the condition of the unborn child and he strongly advised for Jessica to have an abortion. His decision was based on his experience and medical knowledge, knowing that the baby is going to have disabilities and it is going to be a very big burden to the family, both physically and financially. Dr. Wilson is utilizing the theory that is based on cognitive property which states that not any type of biological criteria or species membership that endows a being with moral status (Grand Canyon University [GCU], 2015). One needs to possess some cognitive awareness in order to have a moral status.
