Understanding Fibromyalgia

“Is my pain real?” A question millions of people suffering with fibromyalgia (FM) ask themselves when confronted with the controversy on whether the condition really exists (Science Daily, 2006). Roughly 50 percent of FM patients seek help from three to six providers before correctly being recognized as having FM (Practicing Clinicians, ND). Fibromyalgia is often incorrectly recognized because it is not well understood and can mimic other conditions such as depression and arthritic disease processes.
