Fidel Castro was a competitive man he never liked to lose. He pleased his teachers by his photographic memory and his athletic ability. Soon after school he started to study cuban history very seriously. He made himself believe that cuba was not in control of their history and he blamed the United States. Fidel was in the next election for a seat in the house of representatives, however the cuban president Fulgencio Batista had overthrew the election and it was canceled. Knowing how competitive fidel was he did like that at all. He soon gathered over one hundred and lead an attack in Santiago. The people who hated fidel said he championed the poor and took away from the middle class. Fidel had taken land from the middle class and it was given to the peasants The people who had worked on this land it was now theres (World at war 1). The poor loved fidel for that. It gave them more opportunities to be successful. But it also took away from the people who owned the land before them. It was just taken from them some of them didn't even do anything wrong. Some of the land was abandoned from the people living there because they tried escaping the island to the united state. Fidel was also loved for Believing education in all (Pecar 1). When he became in power he closed casinos and nightclubs and soon he made free education for all. Altho some people lived in bad poor areas and some of the kids did not go to school. Fidel set about changing this. At Castro's request he sent students to these areas teaching the kids to read and write (Pecar 1). Most of this only helped the poor the lower class. During the three years following the revolution a quarter of a million Cubans out of a population of six million left the country (Pecar 1). Almost all of the people who left were the people who didn't see Fidel as helping and they wanted him gone but they could not do that. This only left the people that still live in cuba they liked Castro. But soon they started to dislike him. He started not keeping promises of freeing elections.
