I arrived in America during the month of January, 2013. I was excited to live there for four months and was really in a hurry to meet American people.
My experience in this country began with the workshop week by the GTI team. It was very interesting. Everything was organized, the room were decorated and the students or stakeholders were involved in what they were doing. They were answering all of our questions with a smile, trying to help us the best way they can. When they saw us in the street, they smiled at us because we knew each other. This is really different from what one can experience in France. Sometimes, students are not happy to be somewhere and they show that to others. But here in America, people are more professional, dedicated to what they are doing. If they have a mission, they will accomplish it the best way and forget about all their personal troubles. In general during the semester, all American people that I have met -students or workers- were very dedicated to their work. They want to do their best, even if the goal seems impossible to reach they will try. I find this dedication to work really impressive and rooted in the American culture. It is inspirering to see so many people being committed to their missions. Now, I can easily understand why some people think that French people are a little bit lazzy. Because I have just had a job in America, I know now that American people are dedicated to their work. This will be a useful advice to better understand my co-workers.
Moreover, I have learnt a lot about America and its culture thanks to my roomates. They both work but they never complain about it. They made me discover Raleigh and the people of Raleigh. A very interesting community -that is why I am staying here next year- which will always be able to help someone else, ready to do it and glad to help. Mutual aid is more common in America than in France. It is only my opinion, maybe some French students will not think the same as I do. But here, people are willing to help you. For example, I do not have a car here but I always find someone to come pick me up; even if this person lives far from where I am staying. This person will do this because he will think that a car's probem will not be able to keep me away from Raleigh and discovering it. I enjoy being surrounded by these kind of people. I am also someone who will always try to help, so I really
