Ventilation

The Basics:

In firefighting, ventilation is a technique that involves retreating hot air, flames and smoke from the inside of a burning building. Firefighters will use tools such as power saws, chainsaws, and axes to cut these holes to ventilate. This allows firefighters to roam the building much more easily and safely in order to fight the fire and help any victims get out of the building. If a large indoor fire is not ventilated properly or at all, it could cause an explosion or flashover. If the ventilation is poorly executed, it could also add air supply to the fire which would keep it going on longer and cause the fire to grow.
