Evidence-based practice is a long-standing concept that was informally established by Florence Nightingale in mid-1800’s (Brown & Nemer, 2017). Despite the limitations in knowledge, Nightingale made changes to practice to improve outcomes forming the first notion of evidence-based medicine (Brown & Nemer, 2017). Since that time, many scholars such as Archie Cochrane have contributed to the formal development of what is now called evidence-based practice (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015). Cochran produced several articles promoting the utilization of knowledge and evidence from valid, scholarly research findings to guide healthcare decisions and clinical practice (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015).
