First, we will explain a few cheerleading terms that will be used throughout the paper. A flyer, as it sounds, is someone who is thrown by her bases into the air. In every stunt group, there are two bases directly underneath the flyer and are the primary force for the toss. Slightly behind the bases is the backspot, who is in charge of controlling the stunt and helping the bases with the toss. a front spot is someone who’s sole job is to assist the bases in the toss and help the flyer reach her maximum height. Before a basket toss, where the bases throw the flyer into the air, the flyer is the object at rest. As explained in Newton’s first law, an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion. The flyer will stay …show more content…
According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, motion is defined as the act, process, or instance of changing place. Sir Isaac Newton created the three laws of motion. The first law is stating that every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in a state of uniform motion unless an external force is applied to it. Newton’s second law of motion states that when an object is in a state of uniform motion, all forces acting on the object are balanced. Newton's third law of motion declares that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The different types of motion are linear motion, rotary motion, reciprocating motion, irregular motion, uniform motion and complicated motion. Linear motion is when all parts of an object move at the same distance and move in the same direction. Rotary motion is motion moving in a circle or rotating motion, and reciprocating motion is motion that moves back and forth. Irregular motion is motion that has to clear or specific pattern to its movement. The last type of motion is uniform moting which is motion moving at a constant speed in the same direction. Complicated motion is when two or more types of motion are combined such as rotary and linear motion. The most common types of motion used in cheerleading is linear motion, rotary motion, irregular motion and complicated motion. Another aspect of motion is inertia, which is the resistance when there is a change in …show more content…
Force is defined as the push or pull that is needed to get a non-moving object into motion. The formula for force is mass x acceleration. Mass is defined as the amount of matter in an object, which is different than weight which is the amount of force of gravity on an object. Acceleration is defined as a change in velocity which is an object's displacement over time. For example, the force behind a basket toss would be the back spot and the bases causing the flyer to go into motion. Force is also a vector quantity, meaning that it has both magnitude and direction. Force and speed are directly proportional meaning as one increases, as does the other and as one decreases the other one would decrease as well. The different types of forces are applied force, gravity force, normal force, friction force, air restriction force, tension force, and spring force. Applied force is a force applied to an object by another object. Gravity force is the downward force towards the center of the earth. Normal force is the force supporting the object that is in contact with a stable object. Friction force is the force created by a surface as an object moves across it. Air resistance force is another type of friction force that acts on objects as they are going through the air. Tension force is the force created when a rope or a similar object is pulled tightly on opposite ends. Spring force is force made by a stretched
