What is forced labor and slavery?
It is any work or service which people are forced to do against their will, under threat of punishment. The work which is demanded from any person under the threat of a penalty and for which the person has not offered himself or herself voluntarily.
Forced labour often affects the most vulnerable and excluded groups. Migrant workers are targeted because they often don’t speak the language, have few friends, have limited rights and depend on their employers.
It affects millions of men, women and children around the world. It is most often found in industries with a lot of workers and little regulation.

Millions of workers in Pakistan are held in contemporary forms of slavery. Throughout the country, employers forcibly extract labor from adults and children, restrict their freedom of movement, and deny them the right to negotiate the terms of their employment. Employers persuade workers into servitude through physical abuse, forced confinement, and debt-bondage. The state offers these workers no effective protection from this exploitation.
Debt-bondage in Pakistan is endemic and widespread. The International Labor Organization assesses the problems of debt-bondage in Pakistan to be among the worst in the world. Bondage is particularly common in the areas of agriculture, brick-making, carpet-weaving, mining, and handicraft production.

They have been an anti-poverty agency, working in India since 1972 with the poor people to end forced labor and injustice together.
Anti-Slavery International has being working towards a world free from slavery by working at both the structural level and the grassroots level to change policy and practice. They have been enabling people to leave slavery, helping victims of slavery, supporting the empowerment of people to be better protected from slavery, advocating and lobbying within countries for legislation, policy and practice to end and prevent slavery, and collecting information and publishing reports about these human rights abuses.
Those fighting against these groups and individuals who believe their actions to end this economic inequality are wrong.
