Forest Acres is a community that is currently populated by a majority of individuals who identify as Caucasian. Also, this is a community where a majority of the residents own a home and live above the poverty level. With 76% of the population identifying as Caucasian and only 214 households receiving income below poverty level, according to Data Access and Dissemination Systems (2015), it is assumed many of the residents in this community share similar living conditions and cultural norms. In other words, this is a community where it is assumed residents are Caucasian, live above the poverty line, and share similar lifestyles etc. Although this community is populated mostly by Caucasian individuals and those living above poverty level, there are residents in this community who do not identify as Caucasian and/or live in poverty. Therefore, it is expected that their experiences living in the area are different than those who are Caucasian and living above poverty level because of cultural differences and income levels. According to Netting, Kettner, McMurty, and Thomas (2017), this theory, “Examines structural patterns and relationships within placed-based communities (p. 130).” Therefore, examining the Forest Acres Community through this perspective gives the analyst the opportunity to identify the cultural norms and practices within the area that result in different social and economic opportunities among residents. This is that it will help understand the reason behind the community being heavily populated by Caucasian individuals, and why there are more African Americans living in the area without a high school diploma when compared to Caucasians; although there are more Caucasians living in this
