On last Friday, April 20th, America had its twentieth school shooting of this year. Nineteen-year-old Sky Bouche, a former student at Forest High School, shot a seventeen-year-old male student in the ankle. The injured student is expected to be okay and his injury was not considered serious. The high school in Ocala, Marion County, Florida, was set to have a walkout against school violence later that day. Bouche was put under arrest by the high school’s resource officer, Deputy Jimmy Long. Deputy Long reported that he was standing outside the school when he heard a gunshot from inside at around 8:39 A.M. Long ran inside to investigate and returned with the shooter in custody, three minutes later. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said that no one else was hurt thanks to of the school’s active shooter protocol and Deputy Long’s quick reaction to the threat. On the morning of Tuesday, March 20, Austin Wyatt Rollins walked through the doors of Great Mills High School at around 7:52 A.M. Five minutes later, he shot Jaelynn Wiley once in the head. Jaelynn had previously dated Rollins, and broke up with him shortly before the shooting. She was later taken off life support, two days after the shooting, after being pronounced brain dead by doctors. Fourteen-year-old Desmond Barnes was also shot in the leg, but his injury was not life threatening. A few minutes after Jaelynn and Desmond were shot, Rollins was encountered by the school’s security officer, Deputy Blaine Gaskill. Gaskill and Rollins fired their guns at the same time. Gaskill fired at Rollins’ hand and Rollins fired at his own head. He died at seventeen years old, just after eight A.M. He had taken the pistol used to kill Jaelynn and himself from his
