On the morning of Tuesday, March 20, Austin Wyatt Rollins walked through the doors of Great Mills High School at around 7:52 A.M. Five minutes later, he shot Jaelynn Wiley once in the head. Jaelynn had previously dated Rollins, and broke up with him shortly before the shooting. She was later taken off life support, two days after the shooting, after being pronounced brain dead by doctors. Fourteen-year-old Desmond Barnes was also shot in the leg, but his injury was not life threatening. A few minutes after Jaelynn and Desmond were shot, Rollins was encountered by the school’s security officer, Deputy Blaine Gaskill. Gaskill and Rollins fired their guns at the same time.
