October 23, 2012 Formal Presentations This discussion board post will discuss how a presentation’s Rhetorical Triangle is affected when the location is online. Also discussed will be my opinion on how the speaker could create a connection with an online audience when the speaker cannot be seen, how different the audience’s reactions and distractions are in an online presentation and how the online location affects the choice and effectiveness of the topic.
Even though the speaker cannot be seen in an online presentation, they can still connect with the audience effectively if they practice their speech beforehand. Remember, practice makes perfect. It is important for the speaker to practice the volume and pitch of their voice as well as the articulation in order to be effective in their presentation. The speaker does not want to sound too nasally, so they should consider how to use their voice as they prepare for a presentation. Using their voice properly will be more effective for the speaker than their actual appearance in an online presentation. Power Point slides can still be utilized in an online presentation as the speaker can offer effective visual aids.
The audience’s reactions and distractions are different in an online presentation because the speaker is unable to see what it is exactly that is distracting the audience or their reactions to the information being provided in the presentation. Keeping the audience’s attention with effective visual aids will help to lessen the distractions within the audience as their attention will be required to view the slides and follow along with the presentation.
