Unlike Grendel, The Creature was interested in the world and was afraid of what the humans might think of him. He tried hard to hide himself from society, afraid that people would react the wrong way near him. He felt human emotions and wanted to help people. He felt guilt and loneliness. For example when The Creature stole food from the DeLacey family. He was in desperate need for food so he quickly and quietly stole food. Instead of attacking the family (like Grendel would), he stole the food like a human would steel. The Creature later felt guilt and shame. The DeLacey family lived in poverty and had a lack of food. Because of that situation, The Creature becomes an aid for the family in order to keep them happy. He secretly hauls wood and performs repairs without the family noticing. This shows that The Creature feels human emotions and wants to help people. Instead of killing and scaring people, he hid himself. He didn't want people to fear him and think he’s dangerous. Unlike Grendel, he wanted people to know how big and dangerous he was and to not mess with him. Grendel hated people and didn't want anything to do with them, unlike The Creature, he watched the DeLacey family and was fascinated by what they can do. He learned how to read and talk.
