For example, in the excerpt, “The Leaving,” the girl is encouraged and motivated to get the job done due to her father’s doubts and unsureness of her actually being able to complete the task. I'm sure that gave her the push and strength she needed to work all throughout the night and complete it. She wanted to prove her father wrong and maybe even impress him. In the second writing, “From And The Birds Rained Down,” Bruno is influenced a couple of times throughout the story. The first time was when Bruno’s love for his father and his bloodline made him speak up and defend them, even though it was very unlikely for him to do such a thing. His words were, “you have to understand. It was ignorance, the dark ages, the fear of anything that couldn't be seen or understood. The first time I remember it happening to me was when my older brother first started mountain biking. I saw it and didn't really think anything of it, my brother then proceeded to tell me how fun it was and that I would be great at it. What he didn't tell me was that I could get hurt if I wasn't careful. I was riding down a trail about a week after that conversation right behind my brother and a big tree root was striking up in the trail and I didn't see it. I rode right into it and went flying over my handlebars and landed face first into the dirt. I cut my face up pretty badly, as well as my arms. After that, I didn't ride trails for months.
