A GMO is a genetically modified organism. This is a gene that is altered artificially and forced into another organism. Many different organizations have announced that are not proven to be unsafe. Some of these organizations include The World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Some people say that GMO’s can help solve world hunger, but according to some sources say that people don’t starve because of lack of food, they starve because the food isn’t properly distributed around the world. Wyebrookfarm.com makes a valid point: “We need to stop and ask why tomatoes from Mexico and quinoa from Bolivia are being shipped to the US when those nations can’t feed their own people? And why thousands of acres of farmland here in the US are devoted to corn and soy rather than growing our own domestic tomatoes and quinoa?” GMO’s may create better, modified food, but, just like non-GMO foods, it will not be thoroughly distributed across the world. One in particular was conducted by Judy Carman, Howard Vlieger, Larry Steeg, Verlyn Sheller, Garth Robinson, Catherine Clinch-Jones, Julie Haynes, and John Edwards in 2013.They decided to test the effects of GMO foods and non-GMO foods on pigs. They split the pigs so there was an even number of males and females in each group, fed one group GMO soy and GMO corn, and to the other group non-GMO soy and non-GMO corn. Before they started they measured feed intake, weight, mortality, and blood biochemistry, After 22.7 weeks (the average lifespan of a pig from birth to slaughter) GMO fed pigs had 25% higher uteri and GMO fed pigs had 32% higher rate of stomach
