Gangs are a continuing worldwide issue that all elements of the correctional facilities. Prison gangs are known to have a dangerous reputation, while they commit brutal crimes in and out of prison facilities have turn themselves to be more evil. Furthermore, some prison gangs compete to have a dangerous reputation. Researchers recognized that prison gangs are the stepping stone of becoming brutal in the American prison system since the creation of Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club in Walla Walla, Washington during the 1950s (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2015). Correctional facilities eliminate the term, gangs, in their facilities and refer them to as Security Threat Groups to avoid publicity from a gang member. Security Threat Group is to be founded along culture and cultural lines to off other inmates for protection, however, many inmates joined the group to …show more content…
For example, if a correctional officer opened an Aryan Brotherhood and Mexican Mafia cell, which words might exchange, their mix can eventually explode. In order to avoid a brutal violence in the prison system, prison guards release each group in different times. Some inmates joined gangs in prison to protect themselves and to avoid violence, but they are not aware that everything comes with a price. Rival gangs might threaten a new member from another gang in order to show that they are the dominant in the prison, while others might murder them. It is determined that some gang members search for their friends in prison to ally themselves with them, so they can continue to cause harm outside the prison world (Carlie, 2002). In addition, some inmates were members of a gang before sentenced to prison, so their knowledge is well known on how to conduct business
