About 60 years ago, interracial marriages were illegal, but eventually, this was deemed unconstitutional. The same can be said for same-sex marriage. It is unconstitutional to deny same-sex couples their pursuit of happiness and forego their ability to choose who they want to be with, regardless of gender. According to Circuit Court Judge Sarah Zabel, the ban on gay marriage “serves only to hurt, to discriminate, to deprive same-sex couples and their families of equal dignity, to label and treat them as second-class citizens, and to deem them unworthy of participation in one of the fundamental institutions of our society.” As she puts it, this ban is nothing but discrimination.
