When the U.S. Supreme Court decided that all states had to allow gay men and women to be wed and mandated that all states must allow marriages from another state to be valid in their state, we knew there were going to be questions in the church.
To this day, the Christian church has remained divided on its approach. Some churches have decided to openly welcome the newly married gay couples into their congregations no questions asked, others have always welcomed gay couples, others welcome them, but do not permit them to hold office, and others have always openly preached against it, and still do. It has been decided from the top leadership that you cannot be a member of the church if you are in a gay marriage: you have been declared an apostate. The ruling goes on to say that the gay parents will have no rights in the church as far as ceremonies (which could leave their salvation and place in the afterlife in great question according to their beliefs) and their children will not be welcome as members of the church, either.
