There are primarily two main social groups in the movie: the middle-class that is prominently white families and the “help”. Besides work, these two social groups do not mix whatsoever. The middle-class all look and fit the same picture perfect image, for they all lived in extravagant homes and dressed in expensive clothes. The submissive wife of the household is the stay-at-home mother of their very few children they most often neglect and her motherly duties are left for the house maid to carry. The husband holds most of the control and power in the house, showing the clear gender imbalance in the 60’s. While their husband is at work, these wives spend all of their time with their banal obsessions such as bridge club and neighborhood gossip.
