Once he even clearly stated that he was the best hunter. one of the points in which it is shown is all the mounted animal heads Zaroff has on his wall “mounted heads of many animals--lions, tigers, elephants, moose, bears; larger or more perfect specimens Rainsford had never seen.” (Connell page 4) and another point is when he stated that he was bored and no animal had a chance with him. “No animal had a chance with me any more.” and “. I always got my quarry. Always” (Connell page 6) Another trait of General Zaroff is his carefulness and precision with everything, but, his hunting is the first priority over all. When Zaroff made Rainsford run away, he followed the extremely complex trail that Rainsford created, “He executed a series of intricate loops; he doubled on his trail again and again” then “It was General Zaroff. He made his way along with his eyes fixed in utmost concentration on the ground before him.”(Connell page 10) Here we see how much effort that Rainsford put in to make a misleading trail but nevertheless, Zaroff managed to find him anyway.
