Gentrification is “the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents”, and is found mainly within cities (Merriam-Webster). In Minneapolis there is redevelopment through the neighborhoods “[starting] at the southwestern edge of downtown and [extending] south nearly 20 blocks” (Hammel). This has been taking place for years, but is now accelerating throughout both Minneapolis and Saint Paul with new transport links like the Green Line. Redevelopment is taking place all along the Green Line, with “$2.5 billion in investment [being] announced within a half mile of the tracks” (Hargreaves, et al).
