I would like to start off by thanking you Mr. Prime Minister for your efforts to conserve the environment of our country to ensure that our future generations will be exposed to quality conditions. The issue of climate change and global warming has been far reaching across the global. In the last few decades, humanity has experienced unprecedented changes in climate; the earth surface has been heating up causing the melting of ice in the Polar Regions, consequently raising the ocean levels. In the third world countries, particularly in Africa and parts of South America, parents and children have grappled with hunger due to change in weather patterns in economies that are agriculturally centered and rely heavily on rain to grow crops. Here in Canada, we are blessed with the abundance of food, but our actions still may be causing suffering to other citizens of the world, especially in the developing nations. Canada is not unique to the effects of climate change and global warming as our nation has also taken a heavy toll, particularly in food production and ecosystem. However, the country needs to reevaluate its policies on climate change and global warming. Currently, our nation relies heavily on fossil fuels to power our industries and light our homes. This has led to increment in the emission of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide and methane. These gases continue to accumulate in the atmosphere reflecting back heat from the earth surface leading to undesirable conditions such as heat waves. Our cities are experiencing fluctuations in temperatures which may distort normal working conditions and cause our economy to shrink.
