How can graphic design cross over into other realms of the creative world? How has it changed and evolved over time through the work of pioneering designers and artists? In the past graphic design was purely a solution to a problem but now that relationship has changed due to the work of artists like Paula Scher, a designer who uses typography, colour and scale, most famously creating typographic maps; or Andy Warhol, who took the design concept of mass production and brought it to the Art world. By undertaking this course, I want to create exciting and innovative work and help continue the progress and advances in the industry. I hope to show my eye for design and creativity whilst using my drawing and other traditional art skills in an imaginative approach to produce inventive pieces of work that express my own style.
Studying art alongside graphic communication at A level has helped me understand how the two disciplines can crossover to produce new and exciting design work. Creating a response to a brief using hand rendered elements such as drawing or painting allows me to show my personality through my work.

I have enjoyed being pushed to create high quality outcomes in a limited time period. Completing a project in a few weeks as opposed to a few months has improved my ability to think quickly and more analytically. The foundation course offers more freedom to experiment and develop my skills whilst following set briefs. My photography skills and my drawing ability improve constantly and allow me to create a good starting point for a graphic outcome. My biggest evolution in foundation has been my focus on colour.
