Many factors made America ripe for a religious awakening. To begin, Americans felt that organized religion had lost vitality. Americans also though that the teachings of ministers were dull and no longer heartfelt. There was a longing for greater devotion to religion that once existed during the time of Winthrop. Another factor was a need for more ministers to tend to the religious needs of the population. This led the colonists to happily welcome new priests to preach religion to the colonies. Lastly, the technology that existed at the time was another factor that made America ripe for a religious awakening.
