GREGOR MENDEL
1. INTRODUCTION
Epistemology as defined by Oxford English Dictionary is the theory of knowledge, especially with regard to its methods, validity, and scope, and the distinction between justified belief and opinion (Lawrence, 2015). According to history, there have been many scientists who in the quest for knowledge known to be epistemologists (Marcos, 2004). Although, in the analysis of some of the works done by some of these scientists there have being instances for argument and criticisms, however, many pave way for new discoveries (Marcos, 2004; Chadov et al., 2015). While some work could be seen as if they die a natural death, they are still of relevance, especially, when it comes to philosophy. Part of such scientist, whose work was part of those forgotten for years before it became a legacy for today science, is Gregor Mendel. In this paper, life history of Gregor Mendel, including his findings and the significance of his works, will be reviewed based on history and the existing literatures.

Gregor Mendel is a German speaking Moravian scientist. Gregor was born July 20, 1822, in Heinzendorf Odrau, Moravian- Silesian border, Austrian Empire., a town which is now part of the Czech Republic. The birth name was Johann Mendel. Gregor was born to the family of Mendel. He had two sisters, one older, Veronica, and one younger, Theresa (Mendel et al., 1993). Gregor’s parent, Anton and Rosine (Schwirtlich) Mendel, were small scale farmers on a farm that had been owned by Mendel’s family for more than 130 years.
