In group therapy, patients get the opportunity to interact with other people who are also suffering from an addiction. This provides several benefits.

First, no one is going to understand another person's addiction more than a person suffering from the same or like addiction. With the exchange of ideas between patients, it creates an environment where patients are able to help one another. Additionally, it's beneficial for patients to understand they are not alone in the in their suffering. Finally, the bonding process between patients allows them to build an all important support mechanism for the future.
