Americans have legally had access to firearms since 1791. Why should that change now? The Second Amendment states that United States citizens have the right to access firearms. People disagree on the future of the Second Amendment and the creation of gun laws. Currently, the creation of gun laws are left up to the state which is problematic when law-abiding citizens travel from state to state. All people in the right state of mind and have proper training should have access to firearms for peace of mind through self-defense, hobby, and as United States citizens. People in the United States currently have the right to carry firearms with a license. People have the Second Amendment for self-defense against rape, home invasion, and robberies. …show more content…
The Framers decided to allow people to own firearms for self-defense for times like a home invasion and police are unable to get to someone’s house in time to save them (Farago). About nine years ago a stranger barged through the front door of my house and my dad had just come home from a deployment in Iraq and we were sitting down in my living room catching up and watching my dad’s favorite television show MASH. Since my dad had just got home from a deployment he was on high alert and when we heard something at the door he looked out the window and we did not know them. The person entered my house and my dad was able to have his firearm out and aimed at the door. The person who entered my house was scared of what would happen because my dad had the power in that situation. If my dad was unable to own a gun he would not have been able to defend his family and who knows what the person would have done to my family and me. Would I even be here today? How far would this person have gone if my dad did not have the power? No one will ever know the answer to these questions and I would hate to see a family that has
