What problem is everyone discussing today? What has recently increased, causing a great uproar in rallys, awareness, and demand for change? Gun violence. All over the news, internet, newspapers, etc, are reports and statistics from mass shootings. All over the news, internet, newspapers, etc, are articles and pictures of people marching, “walking-out”, and asking for a change to lower the number of mass shootings. I believe this change will take a lot of work and time, discussion and debate. But, I believe this change is possible. Gun violence has been around for hundreds of years, but in the past decade or so, the results of gun violence have dramatically worsened. This problem isn’t just prevalent for America, it’s happening in other countries to; this is a problem all over the world. Although, for other countries different changes may need to be made to help with this problem, so this essay will focus on changing the United States. …show more content…
In 1999, the Columbine High School massacre resulted in 13 deaths. Recently this year, a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School resulted in 17 deaths. In 2017, 25 people and one unborn child were shot and killed in a church shooting in Texas. In 2012, 27 people were shot and killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. 49 people were shot and killed in an Orlando nightclub in 2016. Finally, the deadliest mass shooting recorded was the Las Vegas shooting in 2017, where 58 people were killed. These are just a few examples of some of the mass shootings in the United States. 58 innocent people, in one shooting. 27 people, many of which were children, killed. These are terrible statistics that should be reasons in themselves for stepping up to make a
