According to the Gun Violence Archive there have been over 300 incidents of gun violence in America since November 2017. In the heat of gun violence and mass shootings, a lot is being said and written about gun rights and the 2nd amendment. We must ask ourselves, is there a viable solution to this rising problem while still respecting the intended purpose of the right to bear arms? The constantly rising number of shootings have led some to believe that the only solution is a blanket ban of all guns but that would go against the security of a free State, and against the right of the people to keep and bear Arms for protection from a tyranny. Some believe that the government would do no such thing but rights to guns must remain as a long term measure because, as seen in history, popularly elected governments may undergo transformations and adopt extreme ideologies. With the recent rise in gun violence, we must think of measures that would solve this crisis. One of the most obvious and viable solutions is to make it harder to get a gun without completely banning them.
