The Revolutionary War spread its influence to Haiti and aided the Haitians in their decision to revolt against slavery. In Haiti, or Saint-Domingue as it was known as back then, during the 18th century, slavery was the foundation of its economy (Dubois p.1). The colonies would trade lumber and provisions for goods such as molasses which they used to make rum.
