Hardships: My Life As A College Athlete

Hardships Growing up my whole life I was an athlete. I dedicated my life to sports. I traveled up and down the East Coast for games and tournaments with club soccer and softball teams. All of this was to prepare me for the high school sports level. I worked tirelessly, trying to improve my skills, and always trying to be the best possible player not for me but for my team. The drug and alcohol agreement is something all high school athletes have to sign and follow. It forbids you from doing any drugs or alcohol while you are in your sports season. I had to sign this form 12 times throughout my high school athletic career. I never broke the contract. I wish I could say the same for my friends. We are a team. One person struggles, we all struggle. One person triumphs, we all triumph. “We either win together, or lose together.” This is what my coach instilled in us on my first day of soccer practice freshman year. We lost my sophomore year, but we did not lose together. It was late October my sophomore year, practice was very cold and intense that day. I can still feel the stinging pain of the ball hitting my thigh like it was yesterday. We were preparing for our semi-final game against Scranton Prep. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” I asked myself, “What is a leader?” A leader in my eyes is any person who goes above and beyond to do what they can to help benefit others. A leader puts the team in front of themselves, no matter what. A leader will inspire their teammates to want to be the best they can possibly be with whatever the task is. They are willing to help you with any problems you may be facing, on or off the field. They are not only a leader on the field, but off the field as well. Not everyone has the personality to be a leader that is what makes being one so
