Harvest of Shame and Harrington’s book are very similar in their main points/beliefs. Harrington would agree with the documentary because they both believe that the poor are hidden in our society, and that they do not have the representation to promote legislative reform. They also believe that when a person is born into a poor family, they are stuck in the vicious circle of poverty. Harrington says that the Other America “lacks the social energy and political strength to turn its misery into a cause”(Harington, 5).
