Imagine, waking up every morning to the sound of the rhythmic waves lapping against the shore, the aroma of the exotic flowers in the air, gazing upon the endless expanse of sky kissing the changing hue of water, so enthralling it captures your heart and mind. Hawaii is full of surprises and adventures that left me breathless. A few magnificent places that I visited while living on the island of Oahu are Lanikai Beach, Hanauma Bay, and Sacred Falls. If I wanted to experience the tranquil waters of Hawaii first, I would visit Lanikai Beach. In the Hawaiian language, Lanikai means “heavenly sea” and when I would gaze upon the beach I knew why. It was hard to imagine how this gorgeous cove was once a volcanic crater. The eye-gazing tourist packed the beach waiting to dip into the cool translucent sea, trying to escape the scorching heat. When I made my way to the shore where the sea meets the sand, I sat down and the water rose and enveloped around my waist. I put on my snorkeling gear and plunged into the warm tropical water, the water was so clear I could count each grain of sand underneath me. I swam past the coral reefs, gazing at these giant, beautiful structures as the terrifying electric eels popped their heads out of the coral, showing me their razor-like teeth. I swam past a school of fish called, “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a,” or know has a reef tiger fish. The reef tiger fish is a bright colorful fish with vibrant yellow stripes and black and white polka dots.
