Throughout history, imperialism was always prevalent in some form. Imperialism is when nations dominate weaker countries, which then allows them to entirely take over and rule an empire. The methods on how this is achieved are through either colonies, protectorates, or spheres of influence. Although these are the three main types of imperialism, nowadays the term imperialism is used in regards to international propaganda in order to discredit other countries. Many nations have fallen or been taken over due to imperialism. For instance, some of these countries that have been affected by imperialism are China, India, and Hawaii. They had received additional help from some Marines of the USS Boston, and Queen Liliuokalani of Hawaii was stripped of her legal power to rule in 1898. Due to this, Hawaii had eventually become annexed by the United States. Hawaii lost its independence as a country and the population ended up being more foreigners than native people. This then led to Hawaii becoming a U.S. territory, which made them subject to the rule of the United States. Some of the outcomes of imperialism in Hawaii are that Hawaii was colonized by Americans, many of the native plants and animal species were destroyed, and Hawaii had become forced to use their agricultural resources for the United States to profit off of. As a result they had a surplus of natural resources such as sugar, Hawaii had appealed to the United States since they knew that they would be able to exploit the empire. Furthermore, the United States at the time was looking for another location to use as a naval base, which would allow them to dominate the Pacific, making Hawaii even more desirable.
