One specific study done involved asking a group of African American and Hispanic Head Start families to be examined in each of these areas. One of the most important areas of this study that really focuses a lot on the idea of psychology was emotion regulation. With the sample of families and students from the Head Start programs that were used for this study they were tested on their emotional regulation from being in this program. These items included the children’s vocal, facial and motor behaviors. Studies like these are very important to follow and should be done more with Head Start families and their children because by observing the emotional behavior of the individuals early on in life at the ages of four to five then teachers and caregivers can detect if they have a risk of developing emotional or behavioral problems with themselves or even with other individuals. In the Head Start preschool I am working at I have asked the teacher if they do closely observe all the students by doing studies on their emotional behaviors and they do but only once during the school year. These types of observational studies on their behavior should be done in the beginning of the school year, the middle and the very end to see if anything has progressed or decreased with the individual’s emotional
