Do you think a mortal can rise to godhood? Well, Heracles' last mortal son Zeus did just that. Before he became a God, the most notable quest he went on was the 12 Labors of Heracles(Rowan). It consists of 12 daring and dangerous challenges no normal mortal could beat, but that does not stop our hero. Heracles, the god of heroics, has many grand adventures and quests in Greek mythology. Heracles was not born a God, but rather just a very strong human. Some of his symbols are his club and Lion tunic which he acquired from his first Labor (Prof Geller). Heracles may be strong physically, but lacks intellectual strength and is a bit of a hothead. His name stands for “Hera’s Glory” (Rowan Godchecker) and he was also the last mortal son of Zeus (Geller). …show more content…
The 12 Labors of Heracles were designed by Hera to kill/torture Heracles. Heracles was not going to be turned away by that though, as he did every labor excellently. He defeated many beasts like the Nameon Lion, Erymanthian Boar and Hydra. He also had to retrieve animals alive, like Artemis’s Golden Deer and Cerberus, guardian of the Underworld. Hera was even more furious after this, so she devised a plan: she would tell Hercules's wife that he didn’t truly love her and that if she gave him this “love potion” he would. In a cruel twist of fate, she listened and it turns out the love potion was filled with the hydra’s blood, which is poisonous, causing Heracles to die. The gods have seen what Heracles has done and decided to reward him with a spot on Mount Olympus where he would rest. In Roman Mythology Heracles or Hercules if your Roman still did the Labors(Bulfinch).
