In “Mystery of a Hero” a story written by author Stephen Crane, the main character named Fred Collins is willing to support others which proves to be a quality of heroism. As Collins begins his journey to a well, located across a battlefield, he is asked to, “take some of the other boys’ canteens” in order to make his trip more plentiful (Crane 3). Traveling vast distances to fill only his personal canteen may be considered selfish, but instead he accepts the order without hesitation.
